Pinback - Messenger - mp3 review
This should be fun. I feel like there’s a good mix of peeps on this list with a love/hate relationship with this band. Either way I’m interested to hear what you guys/girls think about it. I checked out the rest of the record and so far this was my favorite. Its pretty much what you’d expect from them, in that “plunky” sorta way. There was another version of this track on the disc we got that was labeled (full band), it was the exact same song except a bit faster and Im not sure which one will actually end up on the album but I liked this one better. So love it, hate it, or just don’t give a f*!%k? What do you think?
So, I’m going to a RATATAT release party tonight which makes kinda want to send a RATATAT track tomorrow, but I was planning on sending this new band called Van She. If you have a preference let me know. New band or RATATAT?

wow. i’m a big pinback fan but i’m pretty disappointed by this track. i kinda feel like the song never gets off the ground. is it me or does it sound like it starts halfway into inself? i know that most of their songs are relatively anti-climactic but geesh… i found my attention drifting away from this one instantly and then having to go back and restart it. anyway, regarding my preference for tomorrow, i think you should send both, but that’s just me being greedy…

Yeah, I wasn’t all that impressed either.
I loved Summer in Abaddon, but I wonder if this new cd isn’t going to be too similar and wear itself out quickly.
I’m kind of upset about it, but I’d def. still be willing to give the rest of the album a shot.
I want two songs tomorrow too!!

Yeah, I third that emotion. This song could have been one of the weaker tracks on either of their two previous albums.
They’re such a creative, unique and detail-oriented band. You’d think they’d pride themselves on pushing the envelope but it sounds like they just phoned this one in.

i fourth that emotion. i agree with matt, it sounds phoned in, and like they were still lying in bed when the left the voicemail and the morning fog hadn’t quite worn off. i used to really like pinback, but they are one of the few bands that after seeing them live, im just not that into them anymore. i’ll stick to listening to their studio tracks.

Guys/Girls I gotta tell you I just found out that this new Pinback record is not really a new record. Its coming out on Ace Fu and its more like a B-sides thing. Ether old tracks they had lying around that Ace Fu wants to cash in on or throw away tracks that Pinback gave them.

Well I think we all owe ourselves a hearty pat on the collective back for being able to sniff out a B-Side.
