Au Revoir Simone is an indie pop band from Brooklyn, New York that formed in late 2003. The group consists of Erika Forster (vocals/keyboard), Annie Hart (vocals/keyboard), and Heather D’Angelo (vocals/drum machine/keyboard). Forster and Hart became friends while traveling by train from Vermont to New York. The band name comes from a minor character in Tim Burton’s Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.

Sorry for the lack of emails lately. Been kind of busy with work and sick for a few days as well. Yesterday while I sat in my bathroom trying to get motivated for work my mind wondered and I thought about this video that someone had sent me a few years ago. The video was this kid at a spelling bee, he was asked to spell ‘talon’. He looked into the camera and said “do the chickens have large talons?” At the time I didn’t know why my friend sent it to me, I thought maybe because I have a strange obsession with chickens. About two weeks later I realized that it was a Napoleon Dynamite reference. I started thinking about why I didn’t catch the reference the first time I saw it. Then I started thinking about how strange the word talon is. Just sounds weird, right? I’m thinking about this the whole time I’m getting ready for work, and as I’m walking to the subway station I pass our neighborhood butcher. Usually you can see them hauling in skinned goats in the morning, def. not my favorite part of the day. I usually try to keep my focus on the ground and walk past as quickly as I can. I’m walking past it, eyes fixed to the ground, and I walk right over a severed chicken talon, and it was quite large.
Ted Leo has LARGE feet, so you know what that means. Ok, I worked pretty hard on putting these tracks together for you guys. See, we got the promo today and when I put it in my computer to rip it I found they had sliced the audio up into 90 individual audio files instead 1 for each song. So I had to find the song start and stop points and re-cut the mp3s. I apologize for the milli-second drop outs between cuts, you’re gonna have to deal with it, or wait for the record to come out. Anyway, I was pretty excited to get these tracks and I hope you guys will as well.

Went to a party that Andy was DJ’ing last night. Got really trashed and started taking pictures of everyone. I was totally that annoying guy in your face with the flash and shit. Most kids loved it, they’d ham it up when they saw me pointing the camera at them, or immediately drop that ‘too cool for school’ pose that they worked so hard on in front of the mirror before going out. But one dude got pissed at me. I was dancing next to him and some girl and I held the camera down, pointed it up and took a shot. The dude got all pissed and was like “yo, take pictures of your friends, dick”. I just started laughing and then he just walked away. I guess it was rude to take pictures of strangers, but I didn’t give a shit, I was torched. For some reason Joe, Sarah, and I thought it would be a good idea to go to Coney Island so we took a $35 cab and walked on the beach at 5:00 AM. I think the idea was to watch the sunrise, but I ended up trying to jump the Astroland fence and run on the Cyclone tracks and then we decided it’d prolly be best if we just went home.
minus the bear used to be called everything but the bear but they get sued by a Canadian beer company that had trademarked the slogan. The company initially didn’t want them to use minus the bear either, claiming it was too close the everything but the bear, but after a generous six figure settlement they agreed to let them use the name. That’s not even remotely true, but I think if I was in this band I’d prolly fight to get that put in the bio. Anyway, these tracks are from an upcoming remix album that’s coming out Feb 20th on Suicide Squeeze.

I drank too much beer last night and decided to duck tape my eyes shut for no good reason. Wait, is there ever a good reason to duck tape your eyes? Anyway, I’ve just always had this urge to duck tape my eyes closed and see how long I could function that way. I have to say it wasn’t all I expected it to be.
Softlightes are from various parts of CA. Their debut release ‘Say No to Being Cool , Say Yes to Being Happy’ came out on friday the 13th via Modular records. There’s a story on their bio about some of the members working with Cody Chestnut and touring with him in the past ,but I don’t think he had anything to do with this record.
