What up D-A-dubbaya-Gs? Yeah, I just called you a dog, whaddaya gonna do ’bout it? Cry about it. Yo, so we just got the insound spring/summer catalogs in today and they look mad hot. Grab one if you see it around, or just order something from Insound and you’ll get one in your order. There’s some funny editorial in there as well, especially Joes Indie Art Guide. The theme is ‘Save The Album’, and if you haven’t seen it yet, the photo actually did a promo spot for the Save The Album campaign, check it: http://www.vimeo.com/clip:107611

Blonde Redhead is Kazu Makino, Maki Takahashi and Milan born Italian twin brothers Simone Pace and Amedeo Pace. They take their name from a song by DNA, a 70s and 80s no-wave band from New York. Blonde Redhead caught the attention of Sonic Youth’s drummer, Steve Shelley, who produced their first self titled album in 1993. Shortly afterwards Maki Takahashi left the band and the remaining band members continued as a trio. On their fourth album, In an Expression of the Inexpressible, Guy Picciotto of Fugazi was hired as producer, as well as contributing to / singing on the song “Futurism vs. Passeism Part 2″. Guy Picciotto has produced their latest two records. These track are from their upcoming release, 23, which will be released 4/7/07 on 4AD.

Trying to lay off the drinks for a bit, so I went to Sarah, Joe, and Kates place for a dinner party and tried the Jambalaya recipe again. Worked out a lot better this time. While I was there Kates gave me a CD to check out, so I’m sending some tracks from it today so that you guys can check it out. She gave it to me with the caveat that they sound much better live, so take em with a grain of salt.
Charlotte, NC’s rock threesome, Elevator Action’s much acclaimed debut album, Its Just Addiction, showcased a textbook example of write what you know, i.e. partying down in the dirty south. All of these tracks are from that release. Apparently their second album, ‘Society, Secret’, was recorded by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr.,Sonic Youth,The Kills). I’ve not heard it, or anything about it other than that. Last.fm listed Centro-matic as a similar artist, not so sure about that, but check em out and see what you think.

Pretty shitty day so far. Lots of stuff broken, including my mind. So all I have is Last.fm for you:
Currently, all four members of Pela live in the not-so-fashionable waterfront neighborhood of Red Hook — the setting of Hubert Selby Jr.’s Last Exit to Brooklyn, and home to many artists, dock workers, cranes, and shipping containers. During their short history, Pela have played NY venues like the Mercury Lounge, North 6, and Southpaw with such esteemed acts as Sleater-Kinney, The Decemberists, The National, Rainer Maria, Earlimart, and On!Air!Library! Pela are signed to the Great Society label and expect to release their full length album, Anytown Graffiti, on April 24, 2007.

I’m def. feeling that “I’m such an asshole” vibe that you only get from a night of heavy drinking. You know, the one where you keep replaying the embarrassing events of the previous night and asking yourself, “why did I do that?” Somehow, no matter how many times you think about the shit that came out of your mouth, the banter that seemed so eloquent and witty the night before, you never cease to amaze yourself with how fucking stupid you sounded. “Did I really say that? Why did I say that?” The best part, though, is when you look in your wallet and find an ATM receipt for an $80 cash withdrawal right next two lonely single dollar bills. It hurts….it really cuts deep. And now I’m thinking to myself, am I really going out again tonight? The sad truth of it is, yes I am.

Albert Hammond, Jr. (born 9 April 1980, in los angeles) is a member of the The Strokes. These tracks are from ‘Yours to Keep’, which is his debut solo. It was released in the UK on 10/9/06, and scheduled to be released here in the US 3/6/07. The album features musical guests such as Sean Lennon (they wouldn’t let him play with the strokes), Ben Kweller, and even The Strokes’ manager Ryan Gentles and lead singer Julian Casablancas. Bassist Josh Lattanzi and drummer Matt Romano serve as the backing band, with Albert the main singer and guitarist. It was produced by former Thin Lizard Dawn vocalist Greg Lattimer at the Electric Ladyland Studios.

I went to this tech conference with Keith last night. It was a really strange scene, some young, hip looking kids, but mostly older dudes in full tech garb (khakis and polo shirts, optional v-neck sweater preferably blue or red). It was somewhat informative at first but the discussion quickly turned into a ‘reasons why the NYC tech scene isn’t what the SF tech scene is’. Pretty much everyone in the room was involved in one or more start-ups, and they kept talking about ‘angel investors’. I’m not ashamed to say that I had to go home and wikipedia that shit to figure out what the fuck they were talking about. Its was open forum, but there were a few key speakers sitting at a huge conference table and people were are all gather around them. Everyone’s throwing buzz words around like web 2.0, VCs, co-working, silos, etc. They’re getting all animated and passionate talking about their business ventures and ideas about the future. I look around and I see a few people taking pictures and at least one guy shooting video. Anyway, the whole time I’m watching all these people talk about all this geeky shit I can’t help but think how funny it would have been to just break out and start taking last nights party-esq pictures. Walking around the room getting in peoples faces, trying to get these entrepreneurs to take their shirts off and show some nips. “Yeah, great, yeah, now pour the beer on his head!” Next time.
Frog Eyes began life as Blue Pine but soon became Frog Eyes after gaining other musicians, and released their first album, The Bloody Hand, in 2002. However, even after their widely praised 2003 album, The Golden River, the band remains relatively obscure when compared to contemporaries like The Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade (whose vocalist and keyboard player, Spencer Krug, is a former member of Frog Eyes, coincidentally). These tracks are from ‘Tears Of The Valedictorian’, which is scheduled for release 5/1/07 on Absolutely Kosher.

BTW, my sis asked me to put the JT record back up, and since its not on the insound server anymore I figured it be cool. So, if you wanna bring sexy back, go to www.r8e8r.com/mp3r/ and download the tracks I put yesterday.
