At the risk of sounding like a ruthless self promoter I should mention that I’m playing a show tomorrow night with some Insound kids (imanant) at the old Volume (N 14th & Wythe in williamsburg). Keith will be playing drums with us so you’re not going to want to miss two extremely jaded, oldie Mc Olsen, IT dorks pretend to be indie rockers. Keith was telling me though that bitches are into IT dorks now though, they just aren’t into being referred to as bitches. There are some other cool bands playing later that night (Bling Kong, Dracula Zombie USA, and The Shamlers) and later those freaky kids that call themselves The Creature will be DJ’ing.

Cloud Cult are an experimental indie-rock band from Minnesota, USA. The band’s founder and singer Craig Minowa has a degree in Environmental Science and his environmental, political and social awareness is reflected in much of Cloud Cult’s music. The band’s self-created not-for-profit record label, Earthology Records, uses the most truly eco methods out there to ensure minimum damage to the environment. On April 10th 2007 they officially released their sixth LP, The Meaning of 8, although it was available for sale online in late January. Their first “single” from the Meaning of 8 is titled “Take Your Medicine.” These tracks are from that release.

In the midst of a shit ton of chaos around me recently a great career opportunity has opened up for me. I should be ecstatic, but whenever something seemingly good happens to me I’m always skeptical. I trick myself into thinking that anytime I’m anxious or excited about something it always ends up being an horrible experience. An undesired life lesson that ultimately turns me into a more bitter human being. I attribute these disasters to my over excitement. So, I try to convince myself that if I should maintain a healthily degree of pessimism to balance out my excitement because some how that will protect me from a horrible experience, or at least save me from disappointment. Its so stupid though. I can’t just let myself enjoy an exciting moment.
LA indie-pop outfit, Sea Wolf, formed nearly 3 years ago. Frontman Alex Church and his fellow bandmates (rotating members of the Ship Collective community) recently recorded an album entitled “Leaves In The River”. These tracks are from their upcoming EP, Get To The River Gefore It Runs Low, due out on Dangerbird May 8th. They also have a full length coming out sometime in September.

Remember when I used to mp3 emails out. yeah. sorry. XXX has been acting like a needy girlfriend lately. All intent and affectionate when it wants something, but when I need something they kick me in the balls just for asking. Anyway, I will prolly have to remain on mp3 email break til next week after this, but I did manage to find some time to send a few tracks from one of my favorite bands. I know most of you guys dont like kickball, and some of you said you actually said you hated them, but I don’t really care. When I got into work today and saw an email syaing that they posted 2 new songs on their myspace page it made my week. I read on to find out that they have a new album coming on out soon, and that they are going to be playing NY in June. Now I’m in heaven. Most of you guys know I don’t really get pysched about shows anymore, but this is one of the few exceptions. I can’t wait!
Some last.fm kickball shit:
No two Kickball shows are the same, but whether the group is in a sparkling new club, a dive bar, or a dingy basement, the Olympia trio always seems to embrace and exploit the inherent awkwardness of each performance. First Kickball makes you blush; then it makes you wish more bands could be this good and, moreover, this free to be itself.
